Respite Massage

Respite Massage

Respite massage is designed for caregivers. These individuals experience unique life stressors and are least likely to seek medical attention for their own health issues.

Respite massage assists the individual into a relaxed state of being and increases the immune response, digestive and eliminative functions, and general wellness of the caregiver.

It is best to receive massage outside of caregiver's environment for optimal benefits; however, massage can be performed in the caregiver's home, so he or she does not need to make an unnecessary trip or find another to give care. The benefits may be reduced since the caregiver is still in the environment that creates the stressful state.

Massage can assist in the following:

  • reduces stress
  • reduction of emergency/urgent calls to support services/staff by a stressed caregiver
  • decreases isolation
  • increases psychological and emotional wellness

Caregivers come in many forms:

  • home caregivers for family or friends who are ill or incapacitated
  • family caregivers for small children
  • medical professionals - nurses, doctors, assistants
  • public service workers - firemen, police, EMT's
